Open Call: Matrix | Exhibition of Printed Artworks

Matrix is the term used in printmaking for the surface from which an image is produced, such as a woodblock, plate, screen, stone, or other printable form. Beyond its technical meaning, the matrix is a place of origin, where images emerge through processes of transfer, repetition, and transformation.

 

We thus invite artists to submit original printed artworks for an upcoming exhibition that explores diversity and experimentation in contemporary printmaking.

This open call welcomes works created through traditional and/or contemporary print processes, including but not limited to:

• Woodcut

• Linocut

• Screen print / silkscreen

• Etching

• Lithography

• Monotype / monoprint

• Risograph

• Relief printing

• Experimental and mixed-media print practices

 

We are interested in works that explore the unique visual language of print: repetition, texture, layering, mark-making, graphic contrast, and the relationship between handcraft and mechanical reproduction, excluding offset, piezography and giclée prints.

Eligibility

• Open to artists worldwide 

• Both emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply

• Works may be framed or unframed

• Editions and unique prints are both eligible

 

Exhibition Focus

The selection committee is particularly interested in:

• Strong visual language and craftsmanship

• Conceptually engaging works

• Innovative approaches to printmaking

 

Important Dates

• Submission deadline: 25 October, 2026

• Notification of selected artists: 2 November, 2026

• Exhibition dates: 5 - 21 December, 2026

Announcement

• Selected artists will be contacted individually by email.

• Artists that are not selected will not be individually contacted.

• Submitted images of the prints must not be less than 300 dpi and not over 2MB. All common formats are accepted.

• Images of prints may be chosen and published on our social media to promote the exhibition. Permission for posting the prints on our social media, website, and for press publication, is automatically granted by the artist when a print is submitted.

• For prints that are for sale, prices need to be provided upon submission. If the artist does not wish to sell the prints, they will be exhibited as “not for sale”.

• Oasi retains 10% commission on sales during the exhibition to cover basic cost.

 

Transport of prints

• Selected prints can be shipped in advance or delivered by hand directly to the venue. We will send the designated shipping address, as well as detailed shipping guidance for international artists, in due course.

• All prints must arrive to the designated address by 20 November, 2026.

• Transport costs to and from the venue are the responsibility of the artist.

 

Return of prints

• For the return of prints to artists (that were not sold), we repack the print in its original packaging. Once the work is packed, we will provide quotes for return shipping.

• After the exhibition ends, prints must be collected and collection must be organised within 4 weeks of an artist being informed that the print is ready for pickup. Prints that are not collected within 4-weeks (of an artist being notified that the print is ready for collection) are donated by the artist to Oasi, unless other arrangements have been made.
